Ridge Vent Installation – Facts You Should Know

There are quite a number of options for ventilation installation but a combination of the soffit and ridge vent seems the most efficient.

In order to create a ridge vent, you need to make a neat slash in one slot of your roof sheathing and the location should be along the ridge. Then, you need to install a material made of fiber to cover the slot; it is then held firmly by using a cap. The fiber-made material keeps all insects out but it doesn’t prevent free flow of air. The cap’s main function is to hold the fiber firmly and to divert air.

It’s quite common for consumers to find ridge vents in a lot of varieties. Even though hot air has the tendency to travel up to the attic or rafter bay to escape, the more proper way for ventilation should be when the air is pulled out through the upper part of the vent using external sources like air pressures.

If baffles are present in any ridge vents, the movement of the wind can be diverted past the roof in an escalating motion. As a result, the space right above the opening will decrease in pressure and produce a difference in the level of air pressure between the area of the attic and the outside area which causes air to escape the attic.

The same effect is unlikely to happen when prevailing wind blows in the same direction as where the ridge is.

When you try to inspect the movement of the prevailing wind, it’s unlikely for you to identify where it is heading to. Your house might be equipped with an advanced system but it can still be poor in terms of battling issues of the wind. For such a case, even a poor system can outrival your existing system if it is equipped to battle wind issues in a more proper way.

It is not necessary for you to know everything there is about the system of ventilation; however, if you know the ins-and-outs of a good system you might be able to trace the root cause of an issue that might have a connection with improperly ventilated attics or roofs.

It’s quite easy to find a variety of installation methods for continuous ridge vents. Regardless of your option, it is imperative that you inspect the condition of its cap and see if it’s tightly fastened as nails with a longer length need to be used due to the extended thickness.
